The materials used for display stands are quite diverse. Among them, iron display stands are considered permanent display stands, featuring a longer service life but relatively higher costs. Due to the unique nature of their materials and manufacturing processes, iron display stands also require special maintenance and care to ensure their longevity and safety. Below, Topwon shares some tips on How to maintain metal display racks

01 Dust Removal

Outdoor environments have a lot of dust, which can affect the display rack’s appearance and cause damage to the protective coating. Outdoor iron display racks should be regularly wiped clean, preferably using a soft cotton cloth.

02 Moisture Prevention

During foggy weather, use a dry cotton cloth to wipe off any water droplets on the display rack; during rainy weather, promptly wipe off any water droplets after the rain stops.

03 Avoid Bumps and Scratches

Place the display rack in an area where hard objects are unlikely to bump it. Once you select the location, do not move it frequently. Keep the ground where the display rack is placed level to ensure the stability of its four legs.

04 Clean and Dust

Use 100% cotton knit fabric to wipe the surface of the display rack. Pay attention to dust in the recesses and relief patterns of the display rack.

05 Keep away from acids and alkalis

Acids and alkalis that corrode iron are the “number one enemy” of iron display stands. If iron display stands accidentally come into contact with acids (such as sulfuric acid or vinegar) or alkalis (such as lye, soap water, or soda water), immediately rinse the affected area with clean water and dry it with a dry cotton cloth.

06 Avoid direct sunlight

Display stands should be placed in areas away from direct sunlight from windows. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the paint color to fade, the painted layer to crack and peel, and the metal to oxidize and deteriorate. If strong sunlight prevents moving the display stand, use curtains or blinds to block the light.

07 Keep away from moisture

Maintain indoor temperatures within normal ranges. Keep display racks away from humidifiers, as moisture can cause metal corrosion and chrome plating to peel. During major cleanings, avoid using boiling water to wash the racks; instead, use a damp cloth to wipe them down, but do not rinse with running water.

08 Remove rust stains

If the display rack develops rust, do not attempt to sand it down with sandpaper. For small, shallow rust spots, apply machine oil to the rusted area using a cotton cloth, wait a moment, then wipe with a cloth to remove the rust.

In summary, maintaining metal display racks is an important part of daily operations. This not only ensures safety but also extends their lifespan. More importantly, proper maintenance helps present a positive image of the retail store to customers.
